Election 2026: what to watch, who is running, and which races are competitive
A voter guide to the May 2, 2026 election — covering all 17 House districts, three ballot initiatives, and which contests are expected to be close.
American Samoa goes to the polls on May 2, 2026 to elect all 17 members of the House of Representatives, vote on three ballot initiatives, and decide a special election in the Manu'a Senate district.
The most-watched race is House District 5, covering Pago Pago and Fagatogo, where six-term incumbent Savali Faleomavaega faces three challengers — including former ASPA director Loto Tuilagi and first-time candidate Rosa Faleolo.
District 9 in Tualauta is expected to be the most decisive: incumbent M. Pulu holds a significant name recognition advantage, but community dissatisfaction over road conditions and water service has energized his challengers.
The three ballot initiatives address federal grant transparency (Initiative A), authorization of harbor infrastructure bonds (Initiative B), and the creation of an education trust fund (Initiative C). Early polling suggests A and C have broad support; B is competitive.
